Solution pan
On the plot called “Črešnjevec”, you can find a lone rock with a quite large and beautifully formed solution pan (“škavna”) at the top, where rainwater accumulates.
The limestone rock is one of the most beautiful natural Karst phenomena and gives a unique character to the area. Over the course of history, farmers and shepherds used water from solution pans of all kinds. Today, solution pans are most often used by forest animals, birds and insects. This is why in the preparation of the walking route, we did not touch the trees above this rock because it gives shelter to the birds that drink water from this solution pan.
In addition to solution pans, Karst phenomena include rocks with various holes and openings as well as walls with sharp edges and troughs that are the result of running water and temperature fluctuation during seasons. The locals might even take some beautiful rocks home to include them in the garden or yard as decoration.
In short, the passing of time and natural weather changes result in this unique artistic touch on rocks and stones.
