Remains of the Dutovlje-Povir railway embankment
During World War I, there were quite a few railways in the vicinity of Dutovlje, connecting the hinterland with the front-line positions.
In addition to the Dutovlje–Kostanjevica (22 km) and the Dutovlje–Gorjansko (13.5 km) routes, a new route (Britof (Povir)–Dutovlje, 12.5 km) was constructed due to the bombardment of the existing Povir–Opčine route.
Works took place from 6 November 1916 to 4 August 1917.
The military railway branched off of the main Vienna–Ljubljana–Trieste route in Britof at Povirje, crossed the Jesenice–Gorica–Trieste route in front of Kreplje and joined this route at the guardhouse.
In addition to the railway, a large military transshipment station was built in Britof. The interim transshipment station next to Dutovlje at the guardhouse and the transshipment station at the final station Dutovlje/Skopo were of equal importance. With the interim transshipment station, the narrow-gauge field railway towards Gorjansko was also built.
The remains of some reloading ramps and railway embankments can still be seen today. The remains of the overpass accross the Jesenice–Gorica–Sežana route at Kreplje are especially noteworthy because fragments of the military railway embankment can still be seen on the left and the right side of the overpass.
