Environmental protection, safety of visitors and good behaviour
The Karst is a sensitive area and a tourist destination that does not tolerate rude and disrespectful behaviour in the nature. Fire safety comes first, which is why we advise all visitors to be careful when lighting cigarettes and putting out and disposing of cigarette butts. Prevention of pollution with various rubbish is also important and the hikers must take the rubbish with them to the village and dispose of it in appropriate bins.
A large part of the walking route runs through the nature where many animals can be found. Visitors should therefore be respectful to all living creatures – even snakes. You can find bird nests along the route as well as deer litters and other young animals in spring. This is why visitors should not disturb, hunt or chase animals. This also applies to small animals, such as ants and insects. Do not touch the water in solution pans and elsewhere, do not empty other liquids in water and do not throw away food scraps because animals can survive in the nature without them.
Even though the route is maintained and safe, we advise visitors to use appropriate footwear because the route will take you over rocky Karst and not over asphalt surfaces. You are advised not to deviate from the route and you especially should not climb over stone walls, demolish stone walls or touch electric fences where livestock or horses are grazing (they could be under voltage). Headwear is recommended in case of strong sun while in the event of the bora wind, bad weather or expected bad weather, you should wear appropriate clothing and rain protection.
Polite behaviour causes respect and trust in people, both in locals and visitors. To ensure a pleasant mood and mutual trust, the following rules should apply on the walking route:
– We say hello when meeting other people. In particular, the locals should kindly talk to the hikers, help them with information if necessary, tell them what they are doing in the vineyard, in the nature, in the field, on the meadow or in the forest. They should also establish a friendly contact with the hikers.
– If a visitor violates the established and expected order (throwing away of rubbish, fire safety, noise, other threats to the environment), we should warn them about this in a respectful and friendly manner.
– The locals expect that visitors will have a respectful attitude towards the Karst flora and fauna. It is completely unacceptable to pick grapes or other fruit, steal crops from the fields and damage plates on the walking route.
– Picking up of forest and shrub fruits should be done within reasonable limits, without damaging the plants.
– In the spring and before mowing, it is not desirable to trample grass because this hampers mowing.
– Picking up of protected plants is unacceptable and forbidden.
